LONDON, August 13 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky is impressed with the victory of Russian volleyball players at the London Olympic Games. For the first time, the Russian men’s volleyball team won the gold medal, beating in the decisive match Olympic champion Brazil 3-2.

“I have not seen for a long time anything analogous in intensity and will to win,” Vladimir Medinsky told Tass. “I believe that in the last few days of the Olympic Games our athletes gave a lot of happy moments to Russian fans,” he said.

“We have demonstrated that we can fight, we can win in hopeless situations,” the minister said. “If this mood of the past few Olympic days remains, we will perform successfully at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi,” the minister stressed.

The highest award of the Russian national volleyball team since the collapse of the Soviet Union was the gold medal in Sydney in 2000. The national team also won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Athens and Beijing, in 2004 and 2008 accordingly.
