MOSCOW, August 12 (Itar-Tass) —— The series of earthquakes in Iran did not hurt Russian citizens, press attache of the Russian Embassy in Tehran Timur Akhtareyev told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“We have no information about possible Russian casualties as yet,” he said. There is a Russian property in Tabriz, where a Russian couple lives. “We got in touch with them. They are all right. The property is not damaged either,” he said. Besides, the Embassy contacted Russians registered with its consular department. “They are also all right,” he said.
Iran has not asked Russia for assistance, Akhtareyev noted.
The first tremor of 6.4 points happened at 4:23 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday 60 kilometers southeast of Tabriz. The quake was nested at the depth of 9.9 kilometers. The second tremor came at 4:34 p.m. Moscow time, 49 kilometers northeast of Tabriz. The U.S. Geology Service estimated the tremor at 6.3 points. About 50 aftershocks followed.
