Putin congratulates RF judo Olympic team on success at Olympic Games

He also invited Russian judo-players to visit the first Russian mixed martial arts championship

SOCHI, August 11 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin has congratulated members of the Russian judo Olympic team on the success at the Olympic Games in London.

The head of state shook hands with every athlete and gave gold medallists a friendly squeeze. Before Putin asked the senior coach to allow athletes “to touch a drop”. “Usually we forbid, but in this case they can touch a drop,” senior coach Eccio Gamba said.

The president congratulated the whole team on good performances. “I want to congratulate coaches and all athletes on very good performances at the Olympic Games. Maybe, this is the better result in the history of the Russian and Soviet sport. This is, primarily, the result of your work and your efforts, your persistency and talent. I hope very much that this level will remain as long as possible,” Putin told athletes.

He also invited Russian judo-players to visit the first Russian mixed martial arts championship. These competitions are not so responsible as the Olympic Games, but “they are very estimable and rather interesting, in my view”.
