New bridge across bay opened in Vladivostok in ceremony

The cable-stayed bridge across the bay is one of the constructions built in Vladivostok by the APEC summit

VLADIVOSTOK, August 11 (Itar-Tass) —— The cable-stayed bridge across the Golden Horn (Zolotoi Rog) Bay was opened in Vladivostok on Saturday.

People had an opportunity to walk across the bridge and take pictures. It will be opened all the weekend for walking and for transport traffic from August 13.

The cable-stayed bridge across the bay is one of the constructions built in Vladivostok by the APEC summit.

Together with the bridge to Russky Island, it will be the main part of the city's new transport system. Though for the size it is not so large as the bridge across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, but it is the world's fifth. It is almost 1,400 metres long with 737 metres over the water. The 226-meter-high pylon supports hold the construction at the height of 60 metres over the water. The bridge links central Vladivostok with the city's Pervomaisky district.

It was planned to be finished by July 2, but due to heavy rains, the builders could not complete the work on time.
