MOSCOW, August 9 (Itar-Tass) — The ex-prosecutor of the town of Klin near Moscow and one of the suspects in a high-profile case on offering protection to an illegal gambling business in the Moscow region has voluntarily turned himself in to investigators, the Russian Investigative Committee reported on Thursday.

“Eduard Kaplun, the former prosecutor of the town of Klin who has been on the run outside Russia, surrendered to investigators on Thursday. He was questioned as a suspect in committing crimes under article 290 part 4 of the Russian Penal Code (taking a bribe),” the Russian Investigative Committee said on its website.

Eduard Kaplun was put on a police wanted list last May together with the former deputy prosecutor of the Moscow region Alexander Ignatenko. The latter was detained in Poland more than six months ago. The Polish authorities are considering Ignatenko’s extradition to Russia.
