MOSCOW, August 8 (Itar-Tass) — The Pussy Riot group participants on trial at Moscow's Khamovniki court are making their final statements on Wednesday. The key defendant, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, was the first to speak. She called the legal proceedings "an imitation of trial."

"Who's guilty of our performance at the Christ the Savior Church - the authoritarian state - and our group's activity is no other than Opposition art," Tolokonnikova said, adding that not all Russia denounces the group and that an increasing number of people "believe us and wish we were free."

"We're freer than all these people who side with the prosecutor because we can speak what we like, and they cannot," she stated.
