TYUMEN, August 8 (Itar-Tass) — Greco-Roman wrestler Rustam Totrov’s Olympic silver medal is a tangible contribution to the development of the Tyumen wrestling school, Governor Vladimir Yakushev said in a congratulatory telegram to the Olympic “vice-champion” in London.
“This is a graphical example for thousands of boys and girls, as sport persistence, devotion to your work and the striving for victory make it possible to attain universal recognition. Don’t doubt, the Tyumen Region rejoice with you, all of us are happy about your medal and are ready to support you in the struggle for future victories,” the governor noted.
The governor of the Tyumen Region thanked the coaching staff, the whole Greco-Roman wrestling team and President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili, who came to Tyumen many times to compete at the Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament, of which Rustam Totrov is a three-time winner.
Vladimir Yakushev believes that “without the work of these people, remarkable specialists and good fellows,” this victory would be impossible. The governor wished happiness, health and successes in the sport career to the wrestler.
Rustam Totrov began his wrestling career in Vladikavkaz with coach Vakhtan Gagloyev and won his first medal in his young years at the Russian zonal competitions. Since 2010 he has been training at the sport training centre in the Tyumen Region with coach Sergei Vorobyev.
Totrov’s main sport achievements are the silver medal at the World Cup in 2011, the bronze medal at the World Championship in 2011 and the silver medal at the Russian Championship in 2011. In 2012 the Tyumen wrestler became the Russian champion and gained the right to represent the country at the London Olympics.
