NOVOSIBIRSK, August 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev offered to merge regional airports within Russian federal districts. He has made a statement at a meeting for the development of the regional air transportation market on Tuesday.

“I believe that for the optimization of the expenses, primarily for the managerial staff, the merger of federal state-run enterprises, which operate on the scale of federal districts, should be worked out. This could be done,” he believes.

“I expect the relevant initiative from the Transport Ministry,” the prime minister added.

Medvedev recalled that “to keep and develop the airports in the Russian North and the territories with the same status federal state-run enterprises are being set up, and about 2.5 billion roubles are allocated annually for these purposes.” “Currently six state-run enterprises were established on the premises of 50 airports of regional and local significance,” the premier added.

Meanwhile, these enterprises receive subsidies from the budget for partial compensations of the expenses, which are related with departures and arrivals of the airplanes. “This will make it possible to stabilize the financial position of the airports,” Medvedev underlined.
