Strategic war games Caucasus-2012 are not large-scale drills

The numerical strength of the war games will reach 8,000 servicemen, 200 pieces of military hardware and up to 100 artillery guns

MOSCOW, August 7 (Itar-Tass) —— The strategic command and staff military exercises Caucasus-2012 due in September are not taken as large-scale war games, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff Col. Gen. Alexander Postnikov told reporters on Tuesday.

“The war games cannot be called sweeping. We involve the command bodies, as well as so large forces to check in practice the training of commanders and the staff,” he said.

“The numerical strength of the war games will reach 8,000 servicemen, 200 pieces of military hardware and up to 100 artillery guns,” the general said. “The naval force will reach ten warships and motorboats. The aviation will make about 80 flights,” Postnikov noted.

In reply to Itar-Tass what tasks are assigned for the Caspian Flotilla and the Black Sea Fleet during the war games the general noted that the naval sailors will ensure security in their control zone.
