Railway Workers Day to be marked with runners race in Moscow

Moscow railway workers will mark their professional day on Sunday with a mass race of runners

MOSCOW, August 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow railway workers will mark their professional day on Sunday with a mass race of runners.

The race called Stations of Moscow will start from the Yaroslavl railway station at 10:00 Moscow time. The route will lie via all the city railway stations.

The runners, including students of railway institutions of higher learning and technical schools, will run almost 27 km along central highways and finish near the Tsar Tower of the Kazan station, a Russian Railways company source told Itar-Tass.

All who wish will be allowed to participate, but they must be no younger than 18 and have no doctor prohibitions to run.

Diplomas and souvenirs will be presented to all the participants. Before the beginning, a meeting will be held near the monument to first communications minister Pavel Melnikov at Komsomolskaya Square.

Contests of children's drawings, mass sport events, concerts and festivities will he traditionally held on the day.

Some organized the celebration very creatively. For example, a flashmob "175 Years Together with the Country" will take place at the Oktyabrskaya railway on Sunday. At 14:00 Moscow time, railway workers and members of their families at special grounds in St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov, Petrozavodsk, Vyborg, Tver and other cities will release 175,000 balloons into the sky. All the trains on their way will whistle at the same moment, the source said.

Festive concerts will be given at stadiums, culture palaces and squares for railway workers, their families and all other citizens.
