TVER, August 4 (Itar-Tass) — Five cars collided on the 165th kilometer of the Russia highway near Tver on Saturday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the Renault car transporter truck ran into a Setra bus which was carrying tourists from the town of Elista to St. Petersburg. There were 28 people in the bus which hit the Chevrolet and Opel cars. The latter, in turn, ‘touched’ a camion standing on a semaphore. The accident occurred at the Turginovo intersection near Tver.
“Seven bus passengers, including two children, were injured. One adult passenger died. All the injured were taken to hospital. The passengers of light cars received first aid on the spot,” a source at the road traffic inspectorate department for the Tver region told Itar-Tass.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry department for the Tver region has opened a hotline in connection with the accident and has published the names of passengers that were taken to hospital on its website.
An investigation into the accident’s causes is under way.
A number of accidents occurred in other parts of Russia on Saturday.
The investigative departments of the Troitsk and Novomoskovsk districts, whose territories have recently been integrated with Moscow, have initiated criminal proceedings in connection with a car accident in which a motorcyclist died, a source at the Moscow department of the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
The criminal case was opened on charges of violation of traffic regulations and rules of operation of transport vehicle and infliction of death by negligence.
In turn, a Moscow law enforcement source told Itar-Tass that the incident involved the district administration chief of Northern Butovo who hit the motorcyclist when riding his foreign-made car.
In the meantime, seven people hurt in a bus accident have been hospitalized in Russia’s Pskov region, a source at the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
The Scania bus was on its way from St. Petersburg to the Estonian capital of Tallinn. “There were 22 people, all residents of St. Petersburg, onboard. The bus got into the ditch near the Cheremnovo village in the Pechorsky district.
“Seven people were injured in the accident and taken to the Pskov regional hospital. Another 8 passengers got first aid on the spot. They don’t need hospital treatment,” the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry went on to say.
Fifteen passengers were dispatched to Tallinn on another bus.
The region’s law enforcers report that the bus hit in the accident belongs to a private owner, presumably a citizen of Estonia. “According to preliminary reports, the driver fell asleep behind the steering wheel,” the law enforcers said.
