MOSCOW, August 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The number and the area of wildfires have reduced in Russia, ITAR-TASS learnt at the Information Department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies.

“Over 24 hours, the number of wildfires reduced by five, and the total area of wildfires decreased by 1,946 hectares,” the ministry’s spokesman said.

The most difficult situation remains in Siberia. There are 31 wildfires on an area of 7,673 hectares in the Tomsk Region at present. “In comparison with the past 24 hours, the number of fires in the Tomsk Region decreased by one and their area reduced by 1,000 hectares,” the source specified. The number of wildfires in the Krasnoyarsk Region decreased by four, but their total area reduced insignificantly - - by only 2.5 hectares. At present, there are 56 fires on an area of 5,000 hectares in the territory.

A total of 174,720 people and more than 39,000 pieces of machinery, including 89 aircraft, are involved in fighting wildfires and ensuring fire-fighting security in Russia. “All in all, they made 298 flights and dropped over 7,400 tons of water,” the ministry’s spokesman said.
