MOSCOW, August 2 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the personnel and veterans of the Russian Airborne Troops (VDV) on the occasion of their holiday - Airborne Troops Day on Thursday, the Kremlin press service reported.
"The Russian airborne troops have rich history and glorious traditions, and the service in the ‘winged infantry’ has always been considered highly responsible and honourable. You - the soldiers of VDV units – are strong by your unyielding character, unity and mutual assistance. VDV troops always with honour fulfil the set tasks, demonstrate loyalty to the Fatherland and fidelity to duty and in reality confirm the truth of the legendary, time-tested motto – ‘no one but us,’” the message reads.
“Today the Airborne Troops face serious, major tasks of technical re-equipment and modernisation of armaments, improvement of the personnel structure and the strength of the troops. Particular attention should be paid to ensuring decent material support, physical, psychological and military combat training - in accordance with the modern requirements,” the RF head of state pointed out.
“I am confident that you will continue to guard the interests of the Fatherland, make a significant contribution to the strengthening of the national defence and national security,” the president of Russia stressed.
On Wednesday, Putin visited the 31st Guards Separate Air Assault Brigade. He assured the unit’s personnel that the state will continue to “develop and strengthen the VDV.” The president watched how the Airborne Troops servicemen practice on the ground elements of the parachute jump. The president also had an informal meeting with the brigade’s servicemen, VDV veterans and Suvorov Military School cadets.
