WASHINGTON, August 2 (Itar-Tass) — The U.S. Congress will be unable to pass the draft law on cancelling the Jackson-Vanik amendment and giving Russia the status of permanent trade partner before Congressmen adjourn for the month-long summer break, Democrat Sander Levin told the Foreign Police magazine.
This means that the document will be considered by American legislators only in September or maybe after the November elections.
Levin explained that the leaders of the Republican Majority had decided not to discuss the draft law on cancelling the Jackson-Vanik amendment under current political circumstances.
