MOSCOW, August 1 (Itar-Tass) — During a court session at the Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow, where the trial over the criminal case against members of the punk band Pussy Riot continued on Wednesday, lawyers of the defendants Alexei Taratukhin and Violetta Volkova asked for the recusal of the judge, accusing her of personal interests. In particular, each of them claimed that one lawyer saw another lawyer during confidential talks with Judge Marina Syrova.
Upon hearing the arguments of the litigating parties, the court turned down both requests for the recusal of the judge. Since the start of the trial it is already the fourth request for the judge recusal.
Meanwhile, a new scandal has sparked up at the court session. The defendants attempted to ask for a court session to be postponed over their bad health condition. However, the judge did not hear this request, stating that “if they are feeling bad again, we will call the ambulance.” Meanwhile, she recalled that the defendants had medical certificates from the detention centre, as well as a resolution of the ambulance, which had already been called to the defendants on Wednesday, that the latter can participate in the trial.
In protest, all defendants stated that they refuse to participate in the trial and asked to bring them to the convoy ward. The court ignored their statement. The request of defendant Maria Alyokhina to call the ambulance for her was also ignored. Lawyer Violetta Volkova left the courtroom under the pretext that she was feeling bad. The court found it possible to continue the court session in her absence.
The interrogation of the witnesses began.
