Five wildfires remain in Russia’s Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area

TYUMEN, August 1 (Itar-Tass) — Firemen from Russia’s Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area have managed to drastically improve the situation with wildfires in the region. According to the regional emergencies ministry’s department, five woodland fires are fixed there at the moment, and two of them have been localized.

There is no danger to local settlements. Meanwhile, 18 wildfires engulfing an area of 1,641 hectares, were fixed in the autonomous area on Tuesday. Ten wildfires covering an area of 1,321 hectares were localized by Tuesday evening, the deputy director of the regional department for natural resources, Alexander Shilov, said.

He said five fires are currently registered in three districts. They don’t pose any threat to local settlements and economic facilities, the official said. A total of 1,133 specialists combat the blaze in the region. Aircraft took off nine times on Tuesday.

All in all, over 1,300 wildfires covering an area of more than 105,000 hectares have been fixed in forests of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area this year.
