About 15 people injured in cruiseboat-dry cargo ship collision

ST PETERSBURG, August 1 (Itar-Tass) — About 15 people were injured as a result of collision between a cruise-boat and a dry cargo ship on the Neva River on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

An official at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) center for St Petersburg told Itar-Tass, "A collision on the Neva between a cruise-boat and the dry-cargo ship Kilarvi occurred at about 02:00, Moscow tme. The cruise-boat, which was carrying, according to preliminary data, 15 people, sustained damage and sank".

The crews of other cruise-boats and RME rescuers were helping the passengers of the sunken cruise-boat to get to safety. "According to preliminary data, all people were rescued. Ambulance cars brought ten people to the city's hospitals for examination and diagnosing," the RME press service official added.

At dawn, scuba divers are to get down to work with a view to salvaging the sunken cruise-boat.
