VLADIVOSTOK, July 31 (Itar-Tass) — The area of woodland fires in Russia’s Yakutia has exceeded 1,500 hectares. Seventeen fires are fixed in Yakutia’s taiga at the moment, the press service of the emergencies ministry’s regional department reports on Tuesday.
Five woodland fires covering an area of 76.5 hectares have been localized and three fires engulfing an area of nine hectares have been put out, the press service said.
A total of 515 specialists assisted by 67 units of hardware, including six aircraft, take part in firefighting efforts. The aircraft airlift paratroopers to fire sites and dump water on fires. There is no danger for local settlements and economic facilities in Yakutia. Nevertheless, the forest fire emergency regime has been imposed in 13 municipalities.
