MOSCOW, July 29 (Itar-Tass) — Over 3,000 tons of water have been dumped on forest fires in Russia’s Tomsk region over the past two days, sources from the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations’ information department told Tass on Sunday.
The aviation group that takes part in the operation to put out wildfires in the region consists of 19 aircraft, including 12 planes and helicopters of the emergencies ministry. In particular, it includes three Il-76 planes and four Be-200 amphibious planes. Heavy aircraft have been operating in the region since Saturday.
Meanwhile, the airport of Tomsk that remained closed for several days because of smog, functions in the routine regime. However, unfavorable weather conditions in some districts of the Tomsk region have prevented helicopters from taking part in the operation on Sunday.
