DUSHANBE, July 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Authorities of Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region accused the criminal group of former leader of the opposition Tolib Aembekov of destabilising the situation in the region and continuing resistance, statement of the local administration reads.
“Since the moment of murder of General Abdullo Nazarov on July 21, the authorities have been trying to continue a peace dialogue with a leader of the armed group Tolib Aembekov, whose allies are accused of the crime. However, they /the attempts/ have not brought any results,” the statement published on the site of the Khovar national information agency reads. “Moreover, Aembekov has collected a big group of armed people thus preventing investigation of the crime, and, what is more important, his criminal activities threaten security of the local population.”
According to the local authorities, barricades still remain on the roads leading to Khorog, thus preventing public transport from normal work.
Since July 24, ground and cell communications with the Pamir region of Tajikistan have not been functioning.
