MOSCOW, July 27 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian Defence Ministry has denied mass media reports quoting Navy commander-in-chief, Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov as saying, “now issues are being discussed to create logistical assistance points in Cuba, the Seychelles Islands and Vietnam”.
The ministry’s press service told Itar-Tass on Friday: “Mass media reports quoting the Navy commander-in-chief as saying Russia is holding talks on a possibility to deploy Navy ships abroad do not correspond to reality.”
“During the press conference in Moscow on July 26, the Navy commander-in-chief said this issue had not been discussed. Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov did not make any statement on this issue,” the press service said.
“Interstate relations are beyond the competence of the Navy Chief Command and cannot be given to mass media,” the press service said.
“Such reports in mass media are the fantasy of their authors who place on sensationalism than competence and professional ethnic,” the Defence Ministry said.
