2 killed, 5 injured in sewage pump station blast in Moscow region

On Friday the explosion went off at the sewage pumping station during the scheduled works for the replacement of equipment in Shchelkovo

MOSCOW, July 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Two people were killed and five people were injured in the blast at a sewage pumping station in the Moscow Region, the press service of the police department in the Moscow Region told Itar-Tass on Friday.

On Friday the explosion went off at the sewage pumping station during the scheduled works for the replacement of equipment in Shchelkovo in Zarechnya Street. “The team of detectives rushed to the blast site that found the workers were doing scheduled works to replace the relief valve, but as a result of violation of the safety rules the blast went off and the roof of the sewage pumping station collapsed,” the press service reported.

Two people died instantaneously and five other people got various wounds and were taken to the Shchelkovo central district hospital.

“The blast did not affect the operation of the sewage pumping station and the life of people, the pumps and pipelines were not damaged,” the press service said.
