VLADIVOSTOK, July 27 (Itar-Tass) —— A batch of radiation contaminated goods from Japan has been seized in Russia’s Sakhalin port of Korsakov, a spokeswoman for the Sakhalin customs office told Itar-Tass on Friday.

The goods, mainly car components, were delivered onboard the Trawind Glory ship flying the flag of Sierra Leone from Japan’s port of Otaru on the Island of Hokkaido.

Radiation control revealed Cesium-137 contamination exceeding natural background level by 2.5 times. The Russian radiation sanitary rules prohibit the use of goods featuring such radioactive contamination levels.

So far, all the contaminated car components are kept onboard the ship. A decision will be take after an expert study by the Russian consumer rights protection authority.
