Three die in methane explosion in Kemerovo region mine

MOSCOW, July 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Three miners were killed in a methane explosion at the Ziminka mine in Kemerovoregion’s Prokopyevsk, a spokeswoman for the regional emergencies administration told Itar-Tass early on Friday.

“According to preliminary data, there were 95 people in the mine, and eight were at the section where the explosion occurred. Three died, five got to the surface,” the spokeswoman said.

The accident occurred at about 01:58 local time.

Following the explosion, all miners were evacuated from the mine.

An investigation is underway.

Another accident was reported at a mine in the Kemerovo region on Thursday. A fire broke out at the Komsomolets mine in the city of Leninsk-Kuzhnetsky. No one was hurt, a total of 263 people were evacuated.
