Fire occurs at Komsomolets mine in Kemerovo Region

KEMEROVO, July 26 (Itar-Tass) — There has been a fire at the Komsomolets mine in the town of Leninsk-Kuznetsky in the Kemerovo Region. A total of 263 people were working in the mine when the incident took place.

The regional department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) told Itar-Tass that the report about the fire outbreak over the dam of the mine roadway at the level of coal bed No 3 – Tolmachevsky, was made to the duty officer at 05:20, Moscow time. Three teams of a militarised mine rescue unit, comprising 17 people and a response group of the local fire fighting garrison were dispatched to the scene.

There were no immediate reports about casualties. The mine workers’ evacuation has been underway. As of 05:50 MSK a total of 80 percent of the miners were evacuated.
