KHABAROVSK, July 26 (Itar-Tass) — A total of 5,260 hectares of woodland have been destroyed by fire in Russia’s Far East over the past 24 hours, sources from the forestry department of the Far Eastern Federal District told Tass on Thursday.
They said six out of 18 woodland fires have been put out in the Khabarovsk region, inYakutia, as well as on Sakhalin and the Kamchatka peninsula. Five fires have been localized.
Three taiga fires engulfing an area of about 300 hectares are fixed in the Khabarovsk region. Eight fires covering an area of 399 hectares are fixed in Yakutia.
All in all, 1,974 woodland fires covering a total area of about 427,000 hectares have been fixed in the Far Eastern Federal District this year.
