MOSCOW, July 25 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow has clearly explained its position on Syria’s inadmissibility to threaten to use chemical weapons, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

The ministry commented on Wednesday’s meeting between Russian presidential special envoy for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Syrian Ambassador in Moscow Riyadh Haddad.

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of the situation in Syria and around it. Bogdanov explained Russia’s position on inadmissibility to threaten to use chemical weapons and on Damascus’ need to fulfil obligations in compliance with the 1925 Geneva protocol,” the ministry said.

Bogdanov riveted attention to Russia’s principled approaches towards settling the crisis in Syria by peaceful means “on the basis of the Plan by U.N./LAS Special Envoy Kofi Annan and the resolutions of the Action Group that were reached in Geneva on June 30”, the ministry said.

“The parties also discussed key issues of Russian-Syrian relations,” the ministry added.
