Ten-year-old girl missing in Pyatigorsk found dead

MOSCOW, July 25 (Itar-Tass) — A ten-year-old girl, Anna Prokopenko, who was reported missing in Pyatigorsk since July 23, has been found dead.

A sniffer dog found the body securely disguised by the murderer, the press center of the Russian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. The dog several times approached the place where the body was hidden until it finally indicated the place where the body was, the press service said.

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev sent a team of experienced detectives of the Head Criminal Investigative Department (CID) to Pyatigorsk to render practical assistance to local police to solve the crime.

The body of the ten-year-old Anna Prokopenko was found in the area of Mashuk mountain approximately a kilometer away from the place where she lived. The girl had been reported missing since July 23 when she was last seen in a yard near a local shop. The girl's mobile telephone had been stolen a day before she disappeared.

Around 30 people took part in search operations, the Pyatigorsk regional administration said. Apart from police, servicemen of a nearby military unit combed the territory in the neighborhood, searched student compounds and the woods at the foot of the Mashuk mountain. Cossack volunteers, workers of territorial departments and guard structures joined the search, it said.
