Russia FM hopes Dushanbe to protect Russians in Pamir operation

The Russian Embassy in Dushanbe is keeping constantly in touch with the Tajik law enforcement agencies

MOSCOW, July 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia hopes that Tajikistan will ensure security of Russian citizens, who can happen to be in the zone of a special operation by the Tajik security services in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday.

“Russia is following with major concerns the events in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the Republic of Tajikistan. We are alarmed with the acts of violence against republican statesmen that caused the special operations in south-eastern Tajikistan,” the ministry said.

“We hope that the leadership of a friendly Republic of Tajikistan will put the situation under reliable control, restore public order and the supremacy of law in this region,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian Embassy in Dushanbe is keeping constantly in touch with the Tajik law enforcement agencies. “The embassy reported that Russian citizens, who live in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, are not registered in the consular department,” the ministry said. “This information is being checked involving the Tajik Foreign Ministry and other law enforcement agencies,” the ministry said.

Russia assumes that the Tajik authorities “will take all necessary measures to ensure security and legitimate interests of Russian citizens, who can happen to be in the zone of the special operation.”
