MOSCOW, July 24 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow hopes that Syria’s authorities will observe their obligations under the Geneva protocol which bans the use of asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases in war, the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

“Moscow has taken notice of the pronouncements by the Syrian foreign ministry representatives at a news conference on July 23 about possible use of chemical weapons in case of foreign aggression,” the Russian foreign ministry said. “In this connection, we would like to stress that in 1968 Syria joined through ratification the Geneva protocol of 1925 which prohibits the use of asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases in war,”

“Russia calls on the Syrian authorities to strictly obey its international liabilities,” the ministry stressed.
