Settlement flooded in Trans-Baikal territory over heavy rains

The emergency situation regime was announced over the flood in the Kalar district of the Trans-Baikal Territory on July 23

ULAN-UDE, July 24 (Itar-Tass) —— Some 16 houses in the settlement Sbega were flooded on the Chernaya River in the Mogocha district in the Trans-Baikal Territory. “Some 64 people and 21 children, who live in the flooded houses, were accommodated at their relatives and acquaintances at the houses in the same settlement, but on the hill,” a source in the emergency situation department in the Trans-Baikal Territory told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“The electric power supplies of the settlement were not disrupted. Two teams of emergency workers are controlling the situation. A total of 1,503 people, including 495 children, live in Sbega. Some 375 houses, a school, a rural medical station and the house of culture are situated in the settlement,” the source said.

The emergency situation regime was announced over the flood in the Kalar district of the Trans-Baikal Territory on July 23. The water level is growing on the Chara River in the district over heavy rains since July 21. Some 20 countryside houses were flooded in the district centre Chara. Some 109 people live in the houses, to which the water came up, 22 of them were accommodated at their relatives and two pensioners were taken to the Kalar district hospital. The temporary station was prepared on the premises of a local school. In case of a worse situation other residents of the village will be resettled there.

Six farmyards with the houses, where ten families of 43 people live, were flooded in the village Chapo-Ologo, the source said. “In this village seven pylons of the 10 KW power lines fell down. The restoration works continue, a diesel generator was put into operation. Another two houses were flooded in the settlement Kust-Kemda. Residents of these houses were also accommodated at their relatives,” the source said.

The high water level damaged two bridges across the rivers Anarga and Apsat, the section of the Chapa-Chapo-Ologo road was washed out. The boats are used to traffic people and foodstuffs to the flooded settlements. “The population of the district is constantly informed about the weather and the situation on the river through door-to-door visits and sms messages. The foodstuffs are delivered to the villages Chara, Kyust-Kemda, Chapo-Ologo, and the stock of the fuels and lubricants is created. The police have tightened the protection of the law and order. The situation on the rivers is being monitored constantly, the water level is measured every hour,” the source said.

On Tuesday the water level in the Chara River in the Kalar district began going down.

The emergency situation department in the Trans-Baikal Territory has formed an interdepartmental emergency headquarters, which controls the delivery of food products to the flooded settlement and the progress of restoration works.
