About 1,200 houses destroyed in flood in Kuban

Some 8,000 residential houses were flooded, 53,107 people were affected and 171 people were killed

MOSCOW, July 24 (Itar-Tass) —— About 1,200 houses were destroyed in a devastating flood in Kuban, a source in the information department in the Ministry of Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“According to specified reports, 29,000 people lost their property, 5,500 people lost their property partially, 1,198 houses were destroyed completely,” the source said.

It was earlier reported that 400 houses were destroyed in Krymsk.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations explained that the examination of the flood-affected territory continues and the material damages are being estimated. Some 246 interdepartmental operational groups are involved in these works.

Some 8,000 residential houses were flooded, 53,107 people were affected and 171 people were killed in a disastrous flood after torrential rains in the cities of Gelendzhik, Novorossiisk, and Krymsk, the settlements of Divnomorskoye, Nizhnebakanskaya, Neberdzhayevskaya and Kabardinka on July 6-7.

Some 15,344 people and 2,373 pieces of machinery are involved in the cleanup works in the Krymsk district, which is the hardest hit of the natural disaster.
