VLADIVOSTOK, July 23 (Itar-Tass) —— A new airport terminal in Vladivostok began to serve regular flights on Monday. The flights have been catered only in the trial mode at the terminal since June 2012.

The first airplane, which will be received at the new terminal, will be an airliner en route from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Vladivostok, the press service of the Vladivostok international airport told Itar-Tass on Monday. The first departure from the new terminal will be made en route from Vladivostok to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The full transition of flights for catering at the new terminal will take about 2-3 weeks.

The new airport in Vladivostok was built by an APEC summit and enables to receive jumbo jets without any limits. Its throughput capacity makes 1,360 passengers per hour on the peak of the passenger traffic. Some 70% of overall passenger traffic will fall on domestic airlines and 30% on international airlines.

Two runways were also reconstructed, a driveway to the airport was opened, the flight controlling centre was built. The railway lines were built to the airport to bring the passengers from the air harbour to the city by a high-speed train. The throughput capacity of the airport is expected to more than double to reach 3.5 million passengers a year.
