KASIMOV, Ryazan region, July 22 (Itar-Tass) —— The ruling United Russia party is leading in the elections of the city Duma in the town of Kasimov in Russia’s central European Ryazan region, secretary of the territorial election commission Svetlana Kiseleva told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
According to reports from district ballot stations, United Russia is followed by the Communist Party. Then come the Liberal Democratic Party and Yabloko. Although, Kiseleva said, “it is too early to announce the voting results.” According to preliminary information, the turnout was slightly more than 30 percent.
In the mean time, she admitted that the elections were very “noisy,” During the day, the election commission received “a lot of complaints from observers,” including complaints about “each other’s actions,” he said. In her words, this situation stemmed from the fact that too many observers had been accredited to monitor the elections and they “hindered the voting, virtually looming over members of district commissions.” Nonetheless, she refused to say how many complaints had been filed with the territorial election commission, saying only there were “many.”
On Sunday, early elections to the city Duma were held in Kasimov after its previous legislature resigned on May 22, 2012.
Four political parties, namely the ruling United Russia party, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), and the opposition Yabloko party, vied for 20 seats in the local parliament. The A Just Russia was denied registration because of violations of document submission procedures.
