Tajikistan’s security service general might be victim of tobacco smugglers

Abdullo Nazarov of 56 was murdered on Saturday afternoon near Khorog during an attack of a group of at least 20 members

DUSHANBE, July 22 (Itar-Tass) —— In murder of Tajikistan’s Head of the State Committee for National Security Abdullo Nazarov may be involved a local group of tobacco smugglers, Tajikistan’s Deputy Head of the State Committee for National Security Mansurdzhon Umarov told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

Abdullo Nazarov of 56 was murdered on Saturday afternoon near Khorog /administrative centre of the Gorno-Badakhshan region in Tajikistan/ during an attack of a group of at least 20 members.

“We started looking into this version as we came to know that Abdullo Nazarov had supervised an investigation of tobacco counterfeiters,” Umarov said adding that “during the investigation a big amount of smuggled goods was confiscated and a criminal case was opened.

“This is a probable though early version, and during the investigation process we may learn new information,” he said.

Other details are “secrets of the investigation,” he added.

Abdullo Nazarov was head of Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security supervising the Gorno-Badakhshan region.
