Putin to meet with national team going to London Olympics

This year 140 athletes, coaches and heads of sports federations have been invited

MOSCOW, July 21 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday will receive in the Kremlin the members of the national team going to the 30th Olympics in London, the Kremlin press-service has said.

The farewell ceremony will be held in the St. Alexander Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace. This is a second time such an event will take place in the Kremlin. This year 140 athletes, coaches and heads of sports federations have been invited. The Russian team will participate in 34 of the 37 Olympic summer sports.

Among the guests of honor who will wish the top Russian athletes good luck and success will be a legendary woman athlete - disc thrower Nina Ponomaryova (Romashkova) – an eight times champion of the USSR, champion of the Helsinki and Rome Olympics (1952 and 1960).
