Attempts to blame Syria conflict escalation on Russia unacceptable, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said

He emphasized that our Western partners should do at least something to encourage the militant opposition to embark on the road of political settlement

MOSCOW, July 20 (Itar-Tass) — Attempts of the West to accuse Russia of an escalation of the conflict in Syria are absolutely inadmissible, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

“Attempts by some Western countries to make Russia responsible for an escalation of the conflict in Syria because of its refusal to vote for a UN Security Council resolution are absolutely inadmissible,” the diplomat stressed.

“Instead of engaging in insinuations, our Western partners should do at least something to encourage the militant opposition to embark on the road of political settlement,” Lukashevich emphasized.
