No Russians hurt in Burgas bus explosion

The explosion occurred on a bus with Israeli tourists who had arrived in Burgas for a vacation

MOSCOW, July 18 (Itar-Tass) — No Russian tourists were hurt in a bus explosion in the Bulgarian town of Burgas, according to Maya Lomidze, the executive director of the Russian Association of Tour Operators.

“Our tourists were not hurt,” Lomidze told Itar-Tass on Wednesday, referring to the figures provided by the Russian consulate in Bulgaria and Bulgarian tour operators working in the Russian market.

Lomidze confirmed that the Burgas airport was closed. “The airport is now closed. All planes are landing in and taking off from Varna. It’s so far unclear for how long the airport is going to be closed. The biggest number of flights from Russia is expected on Friday,” Lomidze emphasized.

The explosion occurred on a bus with Israeli tourists who had arrived in Burgas for a vacation. Three tourists died and another thirty were injured.

A plane with Israeli tourists onboard landed in Burgas at 16:50 local time (17:50 Moscow time). The bomb went off at the airport parking place at 17:30 local time (18:30 Moscow time) after the tourists had boarded the bus which was supposed to take them to the Slynchev Bryag (Sunny Shore) sea resort.
