KIEV, July 17 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine’s defence ministry said on Tuesday Ukrainian pilots who were killed in a crash in Congo were not member of the country’s peacekeeping force in that country.
“The two pilots were not from the Ukrainian peacekeeping force in Congo. We have no Mi-2 helicopters in that country,” the press service of the Ukrainian defence ministry said.
According to the ministry, the pilots might have been contracted by an air company, probably Russian or Belarusian.
Earlier in the day, Congo’s authorities reported the crash of a Mi-2 helicopter with two Ukrainian pilots. The helicopter crashed near the town of Mbouambe some 180 kilometers away from the capital city of Brazzaville. The Pilots have been identified and their bodies have been taken to Brazzaville.
