More rescuers arriving to Krymsk to help clear debris after disastrous flood

KRYMSK, July 17 (Itar-Tass) —— More rescuers, servicemen and volunteers are arriving in the town of Krymsk in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Territory to help clear the town of the debris after a devastating flood of July 7.

“The group of rescuers currently number 20,000,” Russian Deputy Emergencies Minister Alexander Chupriyanov said on Tuesday at a meeting with Bishop Panteleimon, who chairs the church charity department. “A total of 5,300 people have been seconded by the emergencies ministry, 5,114 – by the defence ministry.”

Bishop Panteleimon on Tuesday visited Krymsk to coordinate aid efforts.

According to the deputy emergencies minister, the ministry is working in close cooperation with the clergy, especially as concerns psychological aid to flood victims.

He also said that it is planned to resume proper functioning of water treatment facilities by the end of the day. A total of 400 people are still cut of water supplies. Works are underway to resume electricity supplies in the town.

As many as 10,616 tons of debris have been removed during the day, water has been pumped off 155 private houses.
