KRASNODAR, southern Russia, July 16 (Itar-Tass) — The body of a pensioner who went missing during floods on July 6 has been discovered in a river in Gelendzhik.
“On July 8, 2012, the relatives of a 72-year-old man reported his disappearance to the law enforcers in Gelendzhik,” Ivan Sengerov, senior aide to the head of the investigation department of the Russian Investigations Committee, told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The pensioner who turned a penny by working as a shepherd didn’t return home or contacted his relatives after the disaster on July 6, Sengerov went on to say.
On July 13, a local resident discovered an old man’s body in the Aderba River among fragments and branches of trees. The daughter of the missing pensioner identified the body as her dad’s. Investigators assume that old man had died in the flood, bringing the number of flood victims in Gelendzhik to 12.
Investigation into the incident is under way.
