KHABAROVSK, July 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Thirteen out of 41 forest fires were put out in the Far East over the past 24 hours, as well as nine more fires were brought under control, an official at the Far Eastern District’s Forestry Department told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Specialists point out to the decline of burnt territories. For instance, over the day under review, fire spread to 662 hectares of woodlands, including 393 hectares of taiga, the official said. According to forestry surveys, 24 taiga fires continue raging in four regions of the federal district as of Monday, July 16.
More than 4,000 hectares of woodlands are under fire in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where 16 wildfires were registered. Six fires on the total area of 600 hectares were registered in the Khabarovsk territory, where three of the above-mentioned fires were taken under control.
The Khabarovsk territory’s forestry management service hopes to put out all wildfires in the taiga of the region.
According to the latest information, 1,901 wildfires have burnt our almost 236,000 hectares of woodlands in the Far Eastern Federal District since the beginning of the season.
