Lightning strike disrupts power supply in Transbaikal Territory

Over 30,000 people, 26 schools, 20 kindergartens and two orphan asylums remained without light

ULAN-UDE, July 16 (Itar-Tass) — The lightning hit a power transmission line in two western districts in the Transbaikal Territory, Russia’s Siberia, a source in Chitaenergo power company said on Monday.

“The lightning strikes affected the ground wire of a 65-kilometer power transmission line LEP-110. Repairs works began immediately,” the source said.

Over 30,000 people, 26 schools, 20 kindergartens and two orphan asylums remained without light.

“There is no threat to life and health of people,” the source said. “Three rescue teams are repairing the power transmission line to restore electricity.”
