SEOUL, July 16 (Itar-Tass) — North Korea’s army chief Ri Yong-ho has been removed from all his posts because of illness, Korean Central News Agency said on Monday.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party.
Born in Tongchon County, Kangwon Province, he joined the Korean People’s Army in August 1959. He was appointed Chief of General Staff in February 2009.
At the party conference in September 2010 he was elected a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea. He was also promoted to Vice Marshal immediately before the conference.
