Armenia extradites 12 convicts to Iran

The decision came as an act of good will in response to the Iranian embassy’s request

YEREVAN, July 15 (Itar-Tass) — Armenia has extradited twelve Iranian convicts who wished to serve their prison sentences at home to Iran.

The decision came as an act of good will in response to the Iranian embassy’s request.

Twelve Iranian nationals, including eleven men and a woman, were convicted in Armenia on various criminal charges such as contraband and illegal trade in drugs and psychotropic agents, the Armenian Justice Ministry said.

Armenia and Iran signed an agreement on legal cooperation on civilian and criminal cases in Teheran on July 5, 2006. At present, Yerevan and Teheran are engaged in consultations on a draft treaty for extradition of convicts.
