Putin calls on trade union to get involved in drafting support measures after joining WTO

Shmakov, in turn, said that this issue had been raised at a meeting of the three-party commission

MOSCOW, July 13 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on trade union to take part in the elaboration of measures to support some economic sectors after Russia joint the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On Friday, the president met with head of Russia’s Federation of Independent Trade Unions Mikhail Shmakov. Putin said that it would be right if Russia’s executive authorities involved trade unions in elaborating support measures to those sectors of the economy that might need such support after joining the WTO.

Shmakov, in turn, said that this issue had been raised at a meeting of the three-party commission, which includes representatives of the state, employers and trade unions. “We have agreed to consider, on a regular basis, the impacts and new challenges of the WTO membership in order to work out joint proposals to neutralize or minimize negative effects,” Shmakov said.
