State Duma to draft roadmap to form Eurasian parliament by yearend

“The current State Duma is taking much effort to strengthen our foreign policy, to consolidate our positions on the world arena,” the speaker noted

MOSCOW, July 13 (Itar-Tass) —— A roadmap for the formation of the Eurasian parliament is to be ready by the end of the current year, speaker of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of national parliament, Sergei Naryshkin said on Friday closing the low house’ spring session.

“The current State Duma is taking much effort to strengthen our foreign policy, to consolidate our positions on the world arena,” the speaker noted. “It is taking part in integration projects of historic importance.”

“Now that three states – Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia – have formed the Common Economic Space, their Eurasian integration has advanced to a principally new stage,: he stressed. “And I think we should not waste time and consider future formats of joint legislative activities with lawmakers from the Common Economic Space member states.”

“I hope that before the yearend we will be able to draft a roadmap for the formation of a parliamentary component of the Eurasian economic integration,” Naryshkin said in conclusion.
