PARIS, July 13 (Itar-Tass) —— France’s President Francois Hollande intends to prove to Russia it necessary Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad quits and there should be peaceful transfer of power to interim executive body.

France’s leader made this statement on Thursday evening following a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman.

According to Hollande, under the circumstances, he considers it necessary "to convince Russia that there is nothing worse than chaos, and that by supporting Bashar Assad, there is a risk to come to chaos."

"So if we want to avoid strife, civil war in Syria, all countries must agree to a transition of power, to resigning of Bashar al-Assad by handing over the powers to a transitional government,” he said. “These are the efforts we have undertaken, including the Friends of Syria Group organisation, and I will continue these activities."

The French president said that his country sees the change of leadership in Syria as the main way to settle the conflict which threatens security of the entire region.

"It is necessary to continue pressing the Syrian regime to achieve a political solution, which everyone is waiting for" Hollande said.
