MOSCOW, July 10 (Itar-Tass) – Russia’s state-owned operator of railways, OAO Russian Railways /RZD/ is restoring the throughput of cargoes along the lines leading to the parts of the southern Krasnodar territory that evidenced a disastrous flooding over the weekend, Valdimir Morozov, the corporation’s First Vice President said Tuesday.
“Today we started loading the cargoes consigned to that region but the amounts of cargoes admitted aboard trains are limited for the times being so as to ensure the throughput of the trains stuck en route now,” Morozov said.
Blocked on the lines alone are more than a hundred cargo trains.
“The accident compelled us to put into effect some conventional measures that restricted the consigning of cargoes for the Novorossiysk transport hub,” Morozov said. “Trains are also stuck on neighboring lines.”
“Prior to the calamity, this part of the North-Caucasian branch of the RZD handled daily 25 inbound and 25 outbound cargo trains,” he said. “In addition, twelve trains would bring crude oil and oil products to the Grushevaya station daily.”
“We’ll restore these schedules as long at the railway infrastructure in those areas continues getting stronger,” Morozov said.
