Russian Knights aerobatics group not to take part in Farnborough airshow

The documents for their departure were not prepared in time

FARNBOROUGH, Britain, July 9 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Knights aerobatics group will not take part in the Farnborough Airshow 2012 on July 9-15, Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Vyacheslav Dzirkali said.

“Russian Knights will not participate becausethe documents for their departure were not prepared in time,” he said on Monday, July 9.

“Unfortunately the two Russian Knights’ Su-27s scheduled to appear at the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 will now not be taking part due to delays which have prevented them from completing the show’s stringent aircraft validation process,” the air show press service confirmed earlier.

The organisers said the decision had been made by Russia.

Initially, two Su-27 planes from the aerobatics groups were scheduled to fly to Britain on July 4, escorted by an Il-76 military transport plane. The departure was then postponed till July 7 and eventually cancelled.

Russian organisations attending the airshow have declined to comment on the situation.
